MaheshaBSD – A Live CD From the Himalayas
Unix operating systems give us freedom to expand their modularity to the maximum. Although we can often meet with a prejudice that “Unix is difficult”, there are really many situations that will make beginners believe things are harder than they really are. This is only partially true. In other operating systems, you install Adobe Flash very easily.
Many BSD users will certainly effortlessly manage the installation of Flash (plugin) for playing youtube videos under Linux emulation; however, there are murky situations when other users are not so happy
Nowadays, beginners with FreeBSD may try PC-BSD or DesktopBSD. But except for graphical installation that the above systems offer, you (the beginner) must nonetheless jump deep into different thinking (which may appear complex) if you were programmed not to look in, but out of the window(s).
There are hundreds of other situations when users think Unix (and BSD) is difficult. What about making your own USB stick that would boot FreeBSD? How to prepare it? How to copy data from one computer to the other one? Questions will follow and follow. Linux is not better, but its community is much larger and provides, too, much more information for the Linux world (than the BSD community for their world). Some information of the above-mentioned sort is on one spot in MaheshaBSD – a modular FreeBSD Live CD/DVD/USB distribution, which was just released (April 21, 2010).
MaheshaBSD
MaheshaBSD is a Live CD (FreeBSD 8.0) that has everything ready for beginners and it can answer, too, most common questions – it can play CD’s, mp3 and ogg files, you can write documents with it, watch films with MPlayer, be anonymous (TOR), recover your lost partitions (TestDisk), scan your NTFS partitions for viruses (Clamav Antivirus), or undelete your files (PhotoRec). You may immediately write to a NTFS drive after mounting it with the following command:
ntfs-3g /dev/ad0s1 /mnt
License of Adobe Flash prohibits redistribution of the plugin, but if you download it (version for Linux) separately and save it (gzipped) into your /root or /home/guest directory in MaheshaBSD, you then only need to run the command “flash”, restart Firefox or Seamonkey and immediately enjoy videos on Youtube.
The script “flash” will automatically gunzip the downloaded *.gz file (Adobe Flash) and will run the command that will install the plugin (/usr/local/bin/nspluginwrapper -v -a -i).
MaheshaBSD Is Modular
The distribution is small (645 MB ISO) – its Window Manager is IceWM and desktop icons are made with support of idesk. When it boots, you will log in to the MaheshaBSD’s minimal MFS (root) environment, which you may always expand by typing the “opencd” (or “openusb”) command. You may, too, go back with the “goback” command – return to MFS (root), and then open this Live CD (USB/DVD) with a different command – “opendvd”, for example, which will mount the usrdvd.uzip file which you probably prepare later. You also have an option to open the CD with “openmincd”, which is intended for minimal (min) memory resources. The MaheshaBSD’s minimal requirements are at least 139 MB of RAM. No hard disk is needed:)
Anonymous surfing is established via TOR and polipo (proxy server). Users just need to click on the icon of the Dillo browser (in X), but before they must execute the TOR and polipo software. They only need to type “anon” (in the root account) and then start Dillo. If users are in the guest account, they must restart polipo as root.
Sharing Mahesha
The thing has also VNC Server – tightvnc, with the help of which you may see desktops of other computers. To connect to the desktop of MaheshaBSD, type “vncserver” either in the root or guest account (on the computer that will act as a server). FTP Server does not miss in MaheshaBSD either – vsftpd; it can be started by running the command:
/usr/local/libexec/vsftpd
Its configuration file is customized, thus you can both upload and download files.
After you open the CD/USB/DVD, you may also use firewall – OpenBSD Packet Filter (pf), which has a working /etc/pf.conf file. The only thing you must do is to change its default (rl0) login interface (in /etc/pf.conf) to the one you actually use. Dhclient must be restarted (the “fw” script in /root/bin will take care of everything necessary).
Typing “startx” from the console starts X Window (IceWM with icons on the desktop). The default video driver is “vesa”, but you may also try running “startxnv” (nvidia video driver), or startxati (ati video driver). MaheshaBSD, too, is Qemu and VMware friendly. To start it in Qemu (X Window), run “startxcirrus”; use “startxvmware” to run it in VMware.
On notebook Lenovo R51, the vesa driver does not appear to work. In such a case (and similar ones), run the command:
Xorg -configure
Then copy the newly generated /root/xorg.conf.new into your /etc/X11 directory (rename xorg.conf.new to xorg.conf) and add the following line into your /etc/X11/xorg.conf (into the ServerLayout Section – needed for mouse to work):
Option “AllowEmptyInput” “off”
MaheshaBSD supports text to sound conversion (espeak), so you may listen to it by typing “speaktips”, for example. If the sound driver does not work, it is the matter of the drivers loaded into the kernel – they must be either unloaded or changed. MaheshaBSD was tested on a number of computers and it may happen that something will not work. To control sound in the text console, users may try aumix.
To put MaheshaBSD on a USB stick, just type “tips” and learn what to do. The system is downloadable from the following URL: freebsd.nfo.sk
The updated documentation of the distro is available only at the above website.
I want to thank the RootBSD team for allowing me to distribute this thing.

chinese sks
ati monte carlo stock black
choate dragonov stock
choate drill and tap scope mount
bushnell sportsview scope
2 tapco 2 round magazines
a tapco 5 round
a chinese steel 10 round
a bayonet mount bi-pod
and around 500 rounds of 7.62×39 stamped 1994 hollow points made in russia brass cased
thanks any help would be apreciated i can not follow sks prices its so confusing
im sorry its tapco 20 round magazines
350$? wow ill just keep it for that i figued the ammo was worth atleast 100$ the gun 250$ the stocks 100$ the tapco 20 rounds 40$ the chinese 15$ the tapco 5 round 10$ the scope mount 30$ and the scope around 30$ the bipod 20$.
no the chinese 10 round is a detachable not the original.
$350 sounds pretty reasonable for all that. The stock alone is worth over $80. Brass cased ammo is rediculously expensive. I think most people will tell you to keep the scope in exchange for more money off, but if you get someone that don’t know any better you should be able to pull $350-$400 out of them.
