AdvancedTCA Carrier Blade electronics design demands the most from any engineering team
A Freescale Power-PC MPC8548 supported by 400MHz DDR2 RAM makes this 32-bit, 1.3 GHz processor a performance champion. 48 Lanes of PCI Express peripheral support add fat-pipe I/O support. Communications use both Gigabit Ethernet Base and 10 Gigabit Ethernet Fabric backplane Zone 2 connectivity. Customized Zone 3 RTM Connectivity provides the unique support our client requires.
Renesas SH8-based IPMI resource management supports over 200 Watts of on-board hot-swap power control making this ATCA Blade highly reliable.
48 Lanes of distributed PCI Express peripheral I/O provide high data throughput between the Freescale Power-PC MPC8548 Processor, the individual AMC Cards and the ATCA Backplane. PCI Express switching technology from PLX permits highly flexible PCI Express configurations among RTM, Card Slots and backplane.
Electronics technology, the most powerful tool known to modern man, continues to evolve. Higher speed. Tighter integration. Enhanced functionality. Lower power consumption. Greater reliability. Increased testing requirements. Today’s electronics product designer faces an array of product choices from vendors such as Altera, AMD, Intel, Cypress, Lattice, Motorola, Microchip, National Semiconductor, ST Microelectronics, Xilinx and many others. Shrinking product development cycles coupled with demanding product requirements can overwhelm a design team.
At Orchid Technologies we specialize in custom electronic product design. Years of successful electronic product development for a diverse group of nationwide OEM clients has made the engineers at Orchid an expert team. Expert at making performance-driven, cost-effective, manufacturable technology choices. Our experience and expertise are available to assist you.
Orchid Technologies’ three phased electronic product development approach is the key to your success. We start with Phase Zero—discovery and planning:
Phase Zero: Orchid reviews your product design requirements in detail. Working with your requirements and concerns, we create a Phase One Development Plan which includes: Top-Level Specification, Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) Cost Model, Prototype Cost Model, and Development Schedule all at the Phase One level.
Phase One: Orchid executes the Phase One Development Plan. During this phase, Orchid performs detailed design, fabrication, assembly, checkout and debug tasks. The purpose of the Phase One period is to produce and deliver a number of prototype units as defined in the Phase One Development Plan.
Phase Two: Orchid and the client test and rework the Phase One design, readying it for volume production. Practical experience shows that product changes are inevitable. The Phase Two period addresses those final changes which result from product redefinition, checkout, debug, testing, and production/process related activities.

Why are switch blades illegal, but spring assisted flip knives arnt?
They are the same thing except one has a button and the other one you have to flip it out on the knives edge, but same speed almost
Spring-assisted knives exploit a loop-hole in most switchblade laws, which often specify that the blade has to be triggered by a button. The were invented pretty much as a way to skirt switchblade laws.
Lawmakers have not tried to changed the law to include spring-assisted knives for one very important reason: The Switchblade Act of 1958 was a MORONIC Eisenhower-era law that should have never been passed. In the US, you can buy and carry GUNS and even purchase machine guns if you obtain a permit from the ATF. So it seems rather foolish to ban a type of knife that opens automatically, especially considering most knife homocides are done with kitchen knives. A non-folding knife is always a faster-to-use weapon than any folder no matter how it opens.
Switchblades were originally invented for fishermen to use on boats, because they needed to hold onto the rigging while cutting a rope with their free hand. Nowadays they simply replaced them with spring assisted. Workmen and farmers use them too for situations where they are holding an object in their hand or clinging to a ladder but need to cut something with one hand.
