Mission Impossible – Finger Sizing
OK, so you have decided upon the diamond engagement ring for your loved one. You’re poised with the credit card ready to make your purchase…..but realise that you need to know her finger size.
AHHHHHHH!
However, don’t worry, it’s not as difficult as you might think.
Finger sizing charts and mechanisms vary from country to country. For example, in the UK it is done by letters and half sizes, whereas in the USA, it is done in purely numbers.
An average ladies finger size in the UK is M or N (US size 6 1/4 to 6 3/4). Around 95% of ladies finger sizes in the UK will fall anywhere between J -Q which is classed as standard size.
So, how do you measure her finger size IN SECRET? After all, you want your purchase of her diamond engagement ring to be a surprise, do you not?
The best and most reliable method for finger sizing is to get hold of one of her existing rings (if she wears them!). Simply look at the ring from the side, and take the internal diameter measurement of the inside of the ring – in other words, the left to right measurement of the ‘hole’. This will give you a measurement in millimetres which you can then equate to a finger size by looking either online or by speaking to your diamond specialists who will convert this for you.
If she doesn’t wear rings, then try to equate the fourth finger of her left hand to one of your fingers. Then get your finger measured either in a jewellery shop or by requesting a free ring sizing kit which most online diamond jewellery specialists will offer.
Finally, if all else fails, then you simply have to gauge her build and finger size against ‘the average’. You know that an average finger size is M or N, so if she is slightly smaller than average, then she is probably going to be a J, K or L, and if slightly larger than average, then perhaps an O or P.
Engagement rings and other diamond rings can usually also be made in half sizes and also quarter sizes if required.
Many online diamond specialists realise the fact that alot of their male customers are trying to buy engagement rings in secret and so offer a free ring re-sizing service. Look out for this free facility when researching different diamond specialists and deciding where to make your purchase…..it could save you some money in the long run!

umm, if you go to a mall and maybe go to an accessory store, you might be able to find some. I’m not exactly sure. Sorry, but thats the only place i’ve ever seen gloves like that.
