Holsters for Guns are a Necessity and Not Just for Looks
Guns and holsters go hand in hand. The flap protects the gun over the top, which prevents it from being removed by a would-be criminal. The flap often has a snap attached to keep the weapon secure. Many police officers will have the weapon concealed on their person by means of shoulder holsters. You see this most often in the case of detectives who wear a jacket to keep the weapon concealed. A patrolman or woman will wear holsters that attach to their belt, and the weapon is either carried at their side, or in back. Ankle holsters are another way to carry a gun, and serve to keep the weapon concealed. This type comes in handy if the officer loses, or has the main weapon taken from him during a scuffle.
It is never a good idea to carry a loaded weapon without a gun holster. Even if the safety is engaged, there is always a chance that the gun could go off and either injure or maim you. Yet people who carry weapons with a permit still refuse to use holsters and will place the gun in the waistband of their pants, or carry it in the jacket pocket. Women also carry guns in their handbags. Not a good idea! holsters are made for, and meant to be used, whether you are a police officer, detective, security guard, or a citizen with a permit to carry a weapon.
Certain holsters are made specifically to carry one make, or brand of gun. Still others are shaped to accommodate any kind. The holsters must also fit around the guns snugly, yet not too tightly as to hamper the person when drawing the weapon. Nothing would be worse than to get the gun “hung up” when you are in the process of apprehending a criminal. They would most certainly use this mishap as a chance to escape. Then there is the ribbing you would have to endure from your fellow officers if this were to happen to you. The same idea goes if the holsters are too big for the gun you are carrying. Small guns bouncing around inside too large holsters are just as dangerous. You forget to set the safety, and you have an accident waiting to happen.
Some holsters come equipped with a flap that closes automatically once the gun is drawn. If you are in law enforcement, these are not the kind of holsters you want to use. By remaining open after the weapon is drawn, holsters allow for the gun to be replaced smoothly and safely. Make sure that the holsters you are using and wearing fit snugly enough that they are comfortable and allow easy access should you need to draw the weapon. It’s always better to be safe than sorry when carrying a dangerous weapon.

this thigh holster is just tooo small?
i have this thigh holster and the straps are way to smal, I’ve adjusted it to the fullest and still way to small. Its some kind of UTG crap holster that seems to be built for little kids, I’m a swimmer my thighs are going to be naturally larger, can someone please tell what kind of a thigh holster i should get that will have large enough straps, please help.
