Shot Gun Weddings, Top Five Reasons to Have One
In the old days… a Shot Gun Wedding, was usually a wedding that was whipped together in less than a month… If a bride was pregnant, the wedding would be done and over with before anyone knew, and the father of the bride would keep a keen eye on the groom to make sure he did not escape!.

How did the passenger seat of a car become called shot gun?
Like if you were calling to sit in the passenger seat of a car, why do we say “I call shot gun”?
i don’t have a source, but i believe this phrase hails back to the american west, when people traveled by stage coach.
security was, to put it mildly, not great in the region in those days. passengers would ride inside the coach, and one employee would ride outside it, holding the reins to control the horses. another would ride beside the driver, holding a shotgun, on the lookout for trouble.
thus, i think, riding beside the driver became known as riding “shotgun”.
